The school year has gotten off to a great start, with lots of calendar items to keep students interested. For example, the Scholastic Book Fair is in progress and will continue through Sept. 10. On that same date, the school will be hosting Family Fun Day on which parents, grandparents, younger siblings, and friends are invited to join the students for lunch.
Shirley will be preparing a standard spaghetti meal with all the trimmings. The cost is $2.15 per adult; $1.75 per child. Door prizes will be awarded. Guests will be encouraged to visit the Book Fair and classrooms.
The girls volleyball season has gotten underway with Mrs. Brenda Piezuch serving as the district’s volunteer coach. Our school will be hosting the third game of the season on Sept. 10 when Lonedell visits at 6 p.m.
Picture Day will be held on Mon., Sept. 14. Interstate Studio will be on hand to photograph everyone in preparation for compiling the school’s yearbook.
Missouri Day has been scheduled for Sept. 24. The sixth graders will be presenting speeches in the morning as famous Missourians. That portion of the program will be followed by students touring various stations that will be setup outside. This year’s event will focus more on commerce with booths related to Boeing, tourism, fur trading/trapping, spinning of wool, and glass blowing.
In addition, there will be a Missouri mule, turkey, and period clothing for the children to view. Parents, relatives, and patrons are welcome to attend.
The PTO this year has a new chairperson, Tricha Cassidy. Under her guidance and with the assistance of former chairperson, Kelly Watson, the group has begun planning the annual Dinner/Dance/Auction. This major fundraiser will be held on Oct. 17 at the Eagles Hall in Sullivan from 5 p.m. until midnight. Silent, Dessert, and Live Auctions will contribute to the evening’s program that also will include dinner and music by the Wild Country Band.
Proceeds will be utilized to maintain and upgrade the technology program, including possible renovation of the computer lab.
