Leasburg trustees left the Sept. 1 meeting thinking that they may not be able to proceed with their well project until April, but it could actually start early next year.
Chris Boone dropped by the meeting on Tuesday night and told the trustees that the information about having to wait 120 days after the paperwork is submitted is wrong. Boone said he will make calls, but it is his experience that funding is not usually something that causes a delay.
Boone informed the board that all the paperwork and designs should be completed by the middle of next month and that they can start taking bids in November. The construction of the well project should take 90 days.
He also brought in surveys and designs for the board to look at. There was a topographic survey and a list of things that will be removed or replaced. There is a large tree that needs to be taken care of, and the parking lot at the fire department will be affected in some capacity.
The building location and well will be next to the pavilion at the park. They will make sure that there is a lot of room in case anything needs to be removed. The water will be pumped out to the well house to a tank.
During construction, the culvert in front of village hall will be extended just shy of the fire department.
Boone said that the building will be split-faced and durable. There will be two rooms; a big room that will have piping and equipment. Water will come through the pipes and into the room. There will also be a smaller room where the water can be chlorinated. Switches will be installed in the bigger room to control the amount of chlorine because it could asphyxiate someone quickly.
Chris Kaiser asked about the safety and security of the building. Boone said that the well would be a steel structure similar to a fire hydrant and anyone trying to tamper with it would need some tools and dedication. He said that they would protect the well the best they can.
Nicky Phillips reported that there are no updates on the funding of the project.
