Lawrence “Larry” James of Sullivan, MO passed away on Monday, September 7, 2009 at the age of 78 years.
Larry was born on February 9, 1931 in Sedalia, MO to Lawrence and Barcie (Scott) James, one of four children. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy and married Dorothea Linden on January 16, 1954 in Kansas City. He and Dot enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel, especially to Texas during the winters, riding his scooter, and visiting with family and friends.
Larry was also a fisherman, woodworker, and guitar player. He always carried a guitar pick in his pocket and played in a band called Jesse James and the Outlaws.
He is survived by his wife, “Dot,” of the family home; two sons, Larry James and wife, Stacey, of Sullivan, and Rick James and wife, Ginger, of Waynesville, IN; two daughters, Sherri Miller and husband, Tim, of Washington, MO and Lisa Whitaker and husband, Mike, of Sullivan; a brother, Bob James and wife, Marlene, of Independence, MO; two sisters, Eunice Harrick of Kansas City, KS and Evelyn Cooper and husband, Don, of Sedalia, MO; 11 grandchildren, William, Josh, Mara, Shaun, Kacie, Eric, Tom, Candace, Brandi, Travis and Steven; four great-grandchildren; many friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Lynda James.
Services for Larry James were conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009 at the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO, with Father Paul Telken officiating. Burial was in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Special Olympics are appreciated.
