The Meramec Valley Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E) #3781 celebrated their 32nd Anniversary and the Missouri State 100th Aerie and the 58th Auxiliary Anniversary with the International Eagles Grand Worthy President Mike Lagervall, Sr. and Grand Madam President Jean Kerr on Sat., Aug. 29 at the Meramec Valley Aerie located at 1000 Acid Mine Road in Sullivan.
“Our aerie was honored to celebrate such a monumental occasion with the Grand Worthy President and Grand Madam President in our wonderful city of Sullivan,” said Joe Lambing, Meramec Valley Aerie treasurer.
The special guests took part in the anniversary events with past Grand Worthy President Jim Roberts. During the event, donations were made to Lagervall’s designated charity, the International Eagles Diabetes Research Center, and Kerr’s designated charity, F.O.E.’s Memorial Foundation.
During their yearlong term, Lagervall and Kerr will spend approximately 260 days traveling to F.O.E. aeries and auxiliaries throughout the U.S. and Canada to increase membership, grow the number of established aeries and auxiliaries across both countries, build a stronger relationship between the aeries and auxiliaries and encourage members to become active for social change.
The Fraternal Order of Eagles are partnering with the University of Iowa in a five-year $25 million fundraising project that will culminate with the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center at the University of Iowa. The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center will be a dedicated center for diabetes research within the Institute for Biomedical Discovery Building at the University of Iowa. Money raised by the Fraternal Order of Eagles will go directly to medical research.
The Memorial Foundation supports children (including those legally adopted) of members who die while serving their country or at work. All Eagle members and their families are automatically protected by this unprecedented safety net. With the Memorial Foundation, children of deceased members who die while serving their country or at work are able to attend college or vocational school with grants.
The Meramec Valley Eagles were instituted into the local community in 1977 and have grown to more than 600 members of the local community. The Meramec Valley F.O.E. aids the local community and exemplifies the international organization’s motto of “People Helping People,” by donating approximately $8,000 each year to local and international charities.
