Sullivan firefighters are out to top their 2008 total of $3,985 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and “Jerry’s Kids” this week as they kick off their “Fill The Boot” campaign.
Firefighters collected donations this past Friday for the charity event and plan to collect donations this Friday and Saturday at various intersections in Sullivan and at the Sullivan Wal-Mart.
“We’ve done the Fill The Boot for MDA for several decades,” said Sullivan firefighter and event chairperson, Dave Konys. “We hope to top last year’s total and will present our check at the MDA Telethon in St. Louis on Mon., Sept. 7.”
Sullivan fire chief, Rich White, stated that fire departments all across the United States participate in this event to help the MDA each year.
“We’re very proud to help the MDA each year and really it’s all about helping the kids,” said White. “The MDA touches many lives and provides several needed programs and research efforts.”
The department knows that the economy has been tough on everyone and wishes to express their appreciation to each and every person who contributes what they can to this program.
Anyone with questions on the Sullivan Fire MDA fundraiser may contact the department at 573-468-6161.
