A short circuit in a wall outlet appears to have been the cause of a mobile home fire in Oak Grove Village on Saturday that left extensive-to-total damage to the home.
Sullivan Fire Department was called to 1019 New St., #17, at 4:25 p.m. for a mobile home fire.
Firefighters arrived on the scene of the fire at 4:30 p.m. and were able to bring the blaze under control at 4:47 p.m.; however, significant fire damage occurred in the living room of the home and heavy smoke and water damage to the remaining rooms of the home.
“When our firefighters arrived at the mobile home, there were flames coming from the living room area and smoke coming out of the windows,” said Sullivan fire chief, Rich White. “They were able to make an attack on the fire and save some of the contents of the home, but there was significant damage to the living room and the rest of the home.”
White stated that all of the family had escaped the fire, but some family pets were lost in the fire.
“The home owner was able to save some of their contents in the fire; but, for all intents and purposes, the home is a total loss,” said White. “The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but does appear to have been caused by a wall outlet.”
Fourteen senior firefighters and two junior firefighters brought the fire under control using six fire apparatus at the scene.
Firefighters remained on the scene conducting overhaul of the home until 6:04 p.m.
