A 10-year-old Eureka boy died on Monday at 1:47 p.m. after he was rescued from a drowning at the Meramec River on Saturday.
According to the Missouri State Water Patrol Nolan Fluchel, 10, Eureka, got caught in swift current and then his foot became caught in a log where he was unable to get free.
Witnesses at the scene saw the child get into trouble in the current and went to rescue him however due to the strong current it took rescuers five minutes to free Fluchel from the log.
CPR was quickly administered at the scene and Fluchel was then flown by helicopter to Children’s Hospital, St. Louis, where he remained in critical condition at press time.
Bourbon and Sullivan water rescue teams were called to the scene along with North Crawford County Ambulance.
