Sullivan Garden Club had its August meeting in the beautiful home and gardens of Norma Wilson. Her co-hostesses were Irene Ruble and June Tongay. The table was laden with beautiful food which included fresh fruit salad, fresh lime pies and chocolate pie.
The program was given by Sharon Parsons of “Boone Country” who is an accredited flower show judge and discussed basics in floral design and preparing horticulture for a show. She displayed American and traditional design.
One was a “line” design, in which the material was straight up and down and a half moon created with two pieces of evergreen shaped to make a “half moon” with two large flowers in the middle for color and interest and then a “moss” design, which is traditional – usually round and even. She reminded the members that fresh flowers cut at an angle will soak up more water and last longer in your arrangement.
Marianne Merello reminded us not to feed our plants anymore and, if you cut back your petunias to six or eight inches now, they will releaf and bloom before frost sets in.
Tony and Beth Wessler on East Street were awarded “Garden of the Month” and Temple Baptist Church was awarded the yearly state award for beauty and maintenance of their property. It was a beautiful day and enjoyed by one and all.
