Leasburg trustees are moving closer to purchasing a new mower for the village and the decision should be coming down at tonight’s monthly meeting.
The current mower is a John Deere that was purchased in 1987 and has stopped running, leaving the village without a mower. Board chairman Kathy Byrd reported at a special meeting on July 13 that she and Nicky Phillips had gone and looked at mowers and the one they are eyeing is close to $3,000 and includes a three-year warranty.
Kris Knight objected to purchasing a new mower and asked if he could have some time to fix it. Knight asked why the village should spend a few thousand dollars for something that may be fixable for $10.
Byrd gave Knight one week to try and get it running and, if he could not fix it, the village would start the process of acquiring a new one.
Since the new mower crosses the village’s budget threshold as an expenditure over $2,000, bids would have to be submitted
