Cultural Grants Awarded

The Sullivan City Council approved $25,604 in Cultural Grants on Tuesday night, June 16, following recommendations by the Cultural Grant Committee.
Grant chairman Tom Thompson addressed the council regarding five applications the grant committee received and that they recommended for approval.
Those approved and their respective amounts are: Sullivan Chamber of Commerce, $1,667.50, 2009 Arts Festival; Harney Mansion Foundation, $10,000, for preservation of the Harney Mansion; Meramec Community Fair, $2,750, Gospel Night; and Sullivan Patrons of the Arts, $11,186.50, fall/winter theater events.
The Sullivan School District was denied a grant for classroom teaching in the amount of $1,500.
Alderman Mike Ryan presented a motion to award the grants recommended by the Cultural Grant Committee, which was seconded by alderman Tom Leasor and approved unanimously.
