City Council Approves Several Issues Tuesday, Receives Project Report

The Sullivan City Council met in open session on Tues., June 16 approving a number of items and receiving a project update from city engineer Robert Schaffer.
Dan Engemann, representative for Missouri 9th Congressional District Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer’s office, addressed the council and reported that if the congressman’s office can aid the city in anyway to contact him for assistance.
St. Anthony Parish submitted a number of requests for approval by the council. The council approved a temporary liquor license for the Parish picnic on Aug. 22 and 23, approved a fireworks show for Aug. 22 at 9 p.m., and approved the closing of North Mansion and Buffalo streets for Aug. 22 and 23 for a car show.
The council approved a temporary street closure for Main St. from Watson’s Florist to Taylor St. on Fri., July 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., for a free performance by the Sullivan Brass Band in the downtown Bandstand.
Sullivan city administrator, Mark Falloon, submitted one item to the council which was a bid for exterior wall sealant at the Sullivan Police Department. The low and approved bid was from Sutton Painting, Marthasville, in the amount of $3,490. The council received four bids for the project which ranged from $4,900, TRE Enterprises; $9,848, Westward Construction; and $19,600, Quality Construction.
City Engineer Schaffer reported the project update list to the city council.
Schaffer stated that the city is back in the running for receiving Community Development Block grant funding for lighting Highway D. The project cost is estimated at $141,894 with the city cost of $59,811.
Schaffer reported that the city has been denied additional funding for the North Outer Rd./I-44 226 overpass project to help traffic flow at the East overpass. The city was seeking an additional $815,000.
Bidding for the phase three portion of the new sewer treatment plant will be let out on June 24 at 2 p.m. Schaffer stated that the city has received several requests for bids and that competitive bids are expected.
Schaffer stated that he is still working on the South Mansion sewer issue from the June 9 meeting of the city council. He felt that costs were still being reviewed on the sewer connection improvements. It has not been determined whether boring or roadway removal would be the most effective route.
The council approved the monthly bills in the amount of $1,326,600.27, which included $532,893.44 to Sho-Me Power.
The council scheduled another workshop on the city budget for June 30 at 6 p.m.
The council went into closed session for four matters of litigation, with no results to report.
