A resident in Stanton is expressing her concern to people in the local area to be alert for groups of dogs running loose and asks that owners of the animals attempt to restrain their dogs.
Janet Correll reported that a black lab/mix breed dog was attacked by a group of dogs near her residence on Mar. 31.
Correll stated that she has three dogs and a fenced- in yard, but her dogs do step outside of her property from time-to-time.
On Mar. 31, Correll was getting ready for work when she observed her dog being attacked by a group of neighboring dogs.
“I took off from my house and began yelling at the dogs and I heard the neighbor yelling at her dogs,” said Correll. “When I ran down there yelling, the dogs all scattered.”
Correll had to pick up her dog and rush it to the Sullivan Veterinary Clinic where it received emergency treatment, including stitches, from the attack.
“My dog was at the clinic for two days following the attack. There was some 10 dogs involved in the attack,” said Correll.
Correll filed a report with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department following the attack.
“My dog is very laid-back,” said Correll. “I just think people need to be responsible for their pets. If my dogs cause any problems, I would want to know about it. I did speak with my neighbor regarding the attack by their dogs and they paid a portion of my dog’s vet bill.”
Since the attack, Correll stated that the dog is recovering and going to be okay.
“I just want people to be aware of what groups of dogs are capable of doing and encourage owners to be responsible for their animals,” concluded Correll.
