Providing sustainable funding for the nation’s highways, aviation and transit needs, including improvements to Highways 50 and 63, more federal assistance for much needed public infrastructure and making high-speed Internet available and affordable in rural Missouri were among the federal priorities approved by the board of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission at its meeting on Feb. 12 in St. James.
Each year, the board identifies state and federal issues impacting the region and then establishes priorities that are delivered to state and federal congressional leaders.
MRPC chairman Laura Antolak, board member Marcus Maggard and executive director Richard Cavender traveled to Washington, DC, in late February-early March to deliver MRPC’s Federal Priorities report.
“It is a good opportunity for us to remind our congressional delegation what issues are important back home, and that ranges from transportation to economic development to healthcare to alternative fuels to education and unfunded mandates,” said Cavender.
The Federal Priorities report will be available on MRPC’s website after Mar. 5.
