Edward J. Stachowicz of Sullivan, MO passed away at the St. Clair Nursing Center on Friday, February 27, 2009 at the age of 81 years.
Mr. Stachowicz was born in Alpha, MI on November 17, 1927 to Jacob and Katherine (Ball) Stachowicz. He honorably served his country with the U.S. Army with the occupational forces in Munich, Germany. On August 30, 1952, he was united in marriage to Josephine Pangrazzi at Crystal Falls, MI and to this union two daughters were born. While making his home in Michigan, Ed was employed as an iron ore miner and at the same time was a mechanic and also built homes.
He later moved his family to Sullivan, MO, where he was employed at the former Meramec Mining Company and later as a pipefitter at the Callaway Nuclear Power Plant. Ed later became a maintenance supervisor at the former Sullivan Nursing Center until ill health caused his early retirement.
He enjoyed music and playing the guitar, fixing things and tinkering in his workshop. Ed was a member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church of Sullivan and the VFW Russell Schmidt Post 3987 of Sullivan.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine, of the family home; two daughters, Joan Barber and husband, Ken, of Sullivan, MO and Charlene Woodcock and husband, Bruce, of Stanton, MO; four brothers, Frank Stachowicz of Crystal Falls, MI, Robert Stachowicz of Iron River, MI, Donald Stachowicz of Alpha, MI and Jack Stachowicz, also of Alpha, MI; one sister, Carole James of Crystal Falls, MI; one grandson, Bryce Barber of Union; other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents, Ed was preceded in death by two brothers, Ben and Joseph Stachowicz, and two sisters, Marie Koscielski and Deloris Yoki.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009 from Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with the Rev. Father John Patrick Day, C.P. officiating. Interment, with full military honors, was in Saint Anthony Cemetery.
