The Sullivan City Council met in open session on Tues., Mar. 17 approving a bid for HVAC Service, four ordinances and the monthly bills totaling $2,383,371.21.
The council approved a bid from Juergens Heating and Cooling for HVAC maintenance at the Sullivan Police Department, city hall and public library in the amount of $2,725 per year and an hourly rate of $65 for repairs. Three bids were received, including bids from Dill Services, Pacific, at $4,869 per year and a rate of $75 per hour and an incomplete bid from Crowder Heating and Cooling. The Juergens bid was accepted and approved unanimously.
The council approved a bid for roof repairs at the Sullivan police station from Huffman Roofing, Farmington, in the amount of $6,620 pending a review of the current warranty on the existing roof.
Alderman Tom Leasor reviewed the monthly bills and approved payment of $2,383,371.21, which included $1,278,455.28 to MoDOT for the Elmont overpass. Leasor expressed some concerns over items still being purchased outside the city limits from businesses.He felt that city employees should purchase from businesses inside the city when possible.
Aldermen Jarrett Dace and J.T. Hardy expressed concerns over engineering fees for North Loop phases four and five; in particular, phase five which covers roadway outside of the city limits.
The council approved six ordinances total on Tuesday night. See related article on Ordinances 3328 and 3335.
Ordinance 3331 extended the city limits on nine acres located along the South Service Rd. East owned by Glen and Marianna Heiman.
Ordinance 3332 approved a Missouri Development Action Grant loan to DAC Industries for $500,000 for equipment purchases for the aerosol manufacturer. The loan will be repaid over 60 months.
Ordinance 3333 authorized the city to proceed with the phase two Vine Street project from McKinley to Hughes Ford Rd. using federal stimulus funds. The cost of the project is $766,676 with the city receiving 93 percent funding from the federal government.
Ordinance 3334 approved nonrefundable fees for utility connection in the city with fees generated from new connections. The fees are $100 for residential, $200 for commercial and $400 for general power. The increases will be placed into the water and sewer funds.
Alderman Hardy requested that a crosswalk be painted near Eaton Funeral Home for visitors to be able to cross the street. The street department painted this crosswalk at the North Clark/Springfield Rd. intersection on Thursday.
Alderman Dace expressed his appreciation to the Ad Hoc Utility Committee for their work and wanted to see their recommendations brought before the council.
The council concluded their meeting in 45 minutes with no closed session held.
