Despite not playing for eight days straight, Sullivan Lady Eagles dominated the Salem Tigers, 48-15—showing why they are ranked second in the state’s Class 4 poll—during Saturday’s makeup game at Sullivan High School.
Sullivan (13-2) dominated both ends of the court and set the tone for the rest of the game by outscoring the Tigers, 11-2, in the first quarter.
“They are in a rebuilding process,” Sullivan head coach, Jason Merkel, said of Salem. “We have a history with this team and they’ve had some good teams in the past. They’ll get better and they’ll be back.”
Senior Hailee Parks jumpstarted the Eagles, pouring in nine points in the opening quarter. She would single-handedly outscore Salem, who fell to 7-11 on the year, for the entire game, draining 17 to lead all scorers on the day.
Sullivan’s great play continued through the rest of the game, going to the half with a 28-4 lead.
The Lady Eagles came out of the gate strong after the half and took a commanding 43-8 lead going into the final quarter.
The Lady Eagles next contest was set to be against Washington at the Borgia Tournament on Monday night, Feb. 2, at 8:30 p.m.
