An alert man is praised for observing smoke coming from his next door neighbor’s house, which happened to be his parents home, and calling the Sullivan Fire Dept.
Sullivan fire chief, Rich White, stated that firefighters were called to 4714 High St., on Wed., Feb. 11 at 4:20 p.m.
“The son of the homeowner, Leon Morgan, observed smoke coming from the eaves of his parents home,” said White. “We were called on the scene, arriving at 4:26 p.m., and brought the fire under control at 4:52 p.m. Had this man not observed the smoke coming from the home, we would have had a full working structure fire.”
The home, owned by Marrlin Morgan, suffered only moderate damage.
“When we arrived on the scene, smoke was visible coming from the attic area,” said White. “The fire was caused by an electrical short.”
The fire was brought under control by 15 firefighters from the Sullivan and Bourbon fire districts.
The son observed the smoke when he went to his parents home to feed their cat.
The home was located in the Woodland Heights Subdivision.
